When It Comes to Health and Longevity, It’s Fair to Say There is Way Too Much Information on the Interwebs
WHEN IN DOUBT, KEEP IT SIMPLE.
If you want to do any of these things. . .
✅ Lose weight
✅ Build muscle
✅ Lower cholesterol
✅ Decrease AIC
✅ Sleep better
✅ Have more energy
✅ Have less anxiety
✅ Not rush around so much
✅ Spend less time on your phone
✅ Be more present in your relationships
✅ Be nicer to yourself
✅ Do less with more focus
✅ Love more
. . . here are some simple no-cost-to-you rules tp help you feel better and be healthier in body and mind:
👏 Eat real food - it grows on trees, in the ground or was alive at one time. Your body has no idea how to digest processed food from a bag or a box (plus it was made in a lab and is likely engineered for you to over consume it).
👏 Move more (and get outside) - our bodies are not meant to sit eleven hours a day. Early man moved at least five hours a day outside. Nature can help decrease your anxiety levels and can help lessen stress and feelings of anger. Get in your body, it feels better. Plus it helps you lower cholesterol / AIC or fight disease.
👏 Lift weights - As we age we lose muscle mass and if you have more muscle when you're older you're much less likely to fall. And if you do fall, you're more likely to have bones strong enough to withstand the impact. Boom! A secret to longevity!
👏 Get your phone out of your bedroom at night - your sleep will be better and so will your relationship.
👏 Slowing down is healthier for your body. When we move slowly we experience increased mindfulness and focus, reduced stress levels, improved physical health, better decision-making abilities, and increased creativity.
👏 Consider your legacy (the world mortality rate is still hoovering at 100%). Be intentional about chapter two, I think it goes fast. The knowledge that you're building something to last will make you more focused, motivated, empowered, satisfied and mentally healthy.
👏 Prioritize sleep/ rest - there is a reason we spend ONE-THIRD of our lives asleep. It’s because sleep is fundamental to overall health and longevity. Adequate rest is critical for optimal cognition, memory consolidation, mood regulation, metabolism, appetite regulation, and immune and hormone functioning.
👏 Love each other - Harvard research suggests meaningful relationships are a prescription for better emotional, mental, and physical health. Good, close relationships appear to buffer us from the problems of getting old.
So there it is, your to-do list if you want to be healthier in body and mind. Yes, it’s simple, but not always easy (which is why I have a job).
