I’m My Clients’ Biggest Cheerleader

COACHES ARE KNOWN FOR BEING STRICT, SO IT MIGHT SURPRISE YOU TO LEARN THAT I’M MY CLIENTS’ BIGGEST CHEERLEADER. HERE’S WHY:

Because it works! People get results when you’re kinder to them and, in turn, they learn to be kind to themselves.

I know what you're thinking…….

👋 We need to kick our own a***s to get anything done.
👋 We’ll be lazy and self indulgent if we treat ourselves too softly.
👋 Being self critical is how we motivate ourselves.

The research actually proves  THE OPPOSITE! Self-criticism actually undermines our motivation.

When we criticize ourselves, we are tapping into our bodies’ threat defense system, the reptilian brain.

This system evolved so that if there was a threat to our physical safety, we would release adrenaline and cortisol and prepare for the fight or flight response. When we criticize something we don’t like about ourselves  (I look fat in this dress), we feel threatened. Only now it’s our brains, not a tiger.

So we attack the problem, meaning, we attack ourselves. And guess what? Our cortisol levels go up and we tax our hearts.

On the flip side, compassion and self compassion actually INCREASE motivation!

The word compassion originates from compati, literally meaning to suffer WITH. This is where I tell you I don’t give directions to any place I haven’t been. Waging this battle from within simply does not work, trust me. I’ve tried kicking my own a**, it doesn’t work.

Everything I do with my clients is SIMPLE, but here’s the catch, it’s not easy which is why recognizing the challenges of being human is where I start.

Life’s hard (despite the way it looks on social media), and OMG so is getting healthy.

We often need to begin again, try something new and accept our imperfections along the way to change lifetime habits.

Just look at what we’re up against:

✅ Just 5% of people who lose weight on a restrictive diet keep it off
✅ 67% of gym memberships go unused
✅ Almost 50% of the U.S. is obese.

We are all human and therefore flawed; Our imperfections help us to connect to each other. My clients and I still have goals, we are just kinder to ourselves while we achieve them. Trust me, it works (don’t just believe me; check out my recommendations on Linkedin).

Feeling safe & valued helps us to do our best…..PASS IT ON.
